Field shelters don't require groundworks or potentially any planning permission. Built from the same sustainably sourced, pressure treated timber that we use in our range of timber buildings, Olson Mobile Field Shelters are solid and quick to install.
With an integrated, galvanised metal skid or pressure treated timber skid and towing chain, our mobile field shelters are easy to move and reposition.
As standard an Olson Field Shelter is constructed from treated 4x2 timber, we line to 1.2m high with OSB and use L shaped chew strips on all openings. On top of this, you can specify additional boarding including the roof etc.
Be it a muddy paddock, snow-covered hilltop or even as additional space back in a horse yard these are superbly adaptable shelters. Our Olson Mobile Field Shelters are available in two specifications that are designed suit your every budget and requirement.
OTB 2 which is an all-inclusive package suits most people, or for even greater specification step up to the OTB 3 with a variety of additional features such as; increased headroom for your horse and a underlined canopy, plus many other features.
Both the OTB2 and OTB3 field shelters are sold as standard with our heavy duty over-sized pressure treated timber skids and have the option of bespoke Olson galvanised skids. All field shelters larger than 24ft require metal skids.
Our timber buildings are available with a range of roofing options. Below are the different types of roofing material that you can choose between. Most of our standard building specifications include Onduline or are finished ready for tiling by a roofing specialist.
Available in several colours, these corrugated sheets are made from recycled fibres that are then saturated with bitumen under controlled pressure and heat conditions. The result is a uniform, hardwearing roof backed by a 15-year manufacturers guarantee. The colours are impregnated into the material so do not require maintenance. The only thing you need to do is keep the leaves off and clear the gutters. This is our standard roof for stables as it has the ability to deaden the sound of rain.
The sister product to Onduline, Onduvilla is similar in being made from recycled fibres but is in an overlapping tile format (installed as sheets). The roof is coloured with variations to replicate the look of a clay tiled roof. With a 15-year manufacturer guarantee, this lightweight roofing material is laid over a boarded roof and can installed on any of our building ranges.
Adding a clear sheet to the roof of a timber building allows natural daylight to flood into the space and makes it brighter for both animals and humans. This option can only be combined with Onduline roofing. Many of our buildings include one or more clear roofing sheets (depending upon the size of the building) but you can specify additional clear sheets.
Many of our timber buildings are available with a choice of cladding as well as a number of internal lining options for walls and ceilings. Depending upon the specification you choose, some will be standard and some will be available for an additional cost.
An optional upgrade to provide full height boarding to eaves for equestrian buildings including stables, field shelters and American barns. Made from 15mm OSB boarding the boards extend to the eaves of the building.
Standard lining on all field shelters, stables, mobile stables and American barns -we line the walls with 15mm OSB boards to 4ft high (1.2m). This protects the building and provides additional strength.
The use of OSB roof boarding both gives a nicer finish to the inside of your building and adds strength to the design.
Shiplap cladding has an overlap and rebate that gives a naturally tight fit and a low profile. Sourced from a FSC certified supplier and pressure treated, shiplap is low maintenance. Treated shiplap can be painted or stained but this is not required.
Our most popular finish for carriage houses and oak framed garages, weatherboard has a tapered profile with each board overlapping the next in a traditional style seen on timber buildings for several centuries. Well suited to a country setting or period building, the boards are treated prior to installation and are sourced only from FSC certified timber suppliers. Weatherboard can be painted or stained but this is not required thanks to the preservation process.
Our timber buildings are built to order, so we can incorporate lots of different features and fittings to create your perfect design. Depending upon the specification you choose, some will be standard and some will be available for an additional cost.
Heavy-duty galvanised metal skids allow for easy movement of mobile field shelters. An option for mobile field shelters and mobile stables, galvanised metal skids are attached to the underside of the timber building, to allow ease of movement around paddocks, fields and yards. Using the standard towing chain (attached to one end of the building) the bespoke skids are designed for a tough life.
Heavy-duty treated timber skids attach the underneath of a mobile field shelter or mobile stables to allow the building to be repositioned to a different paddock or position within in a yard. Simply attach a tractor or 4x4 to the galvanised chain and slide the building on the treated timber skids.
An upgrade from standard L-shaped chew strips, the U-shaped chew strips wrap around the entire entrance support preventing nibbling from both inside and outside of the stable. Use on Stables door surrounds and field shelter openings.
Standard on our mobile field shelters and stables, these L-shaped chew strips prevent animal damage to the door surrounds and openings. You can upgrade to U-shaped chew strips which offer even greater protection.
It is all too easy to skip past the need to deal with run-off water from the roof of a timber building. Depending upon the roof configuration, many of our buildings include half-round plastic guttering to the front, however we also offer the option to fit guttering and downpipes to the rear pitch as well.
Fresh air and air movement help to keep horses and livestock healthy. We install timber vent grilles in the gable ends of stables and American barns. Depending on the size and layout of your stables, you may like to specify additional vents as required.
A long-lasting addition to control access to or from a timber building, a galvanised 5 bar gate can easily be added to our range of mobile field shelters.
A simple addition to our range of field shelters to keep livestock in or out. The pressure treated timber gates are available in various sizes and are attached with galvanised fittings.
Slip rails are a quick, simple and economical way to close the entrances to your field shelter to keep your horses in or out. We will fit the rails using galvanised brackets.
